Rowers excel in Montreal

The Peterborough Rowing Club finished third overall at a regatta in Montreal on the weekend, capturing several gold medals.

Among the first-place finishers were Owen Kane, Junior men's single; Ed Rushton, senior men's single; Rushton and Andrew Nelson, senior men's double; Rachel Herron, Jaclyn Halko, women's double; Ashley Holmes and Joanna Kipp, senior women's pair.

The junior men's eight team also captured gold. Crew members were coxswain Candace Cook, stroke Dakin Wilson, Allan Payno, Richard Love, Colin Leger, Eric Martin, Dylan Wing, Graham Pinchin and Kane.

According to club coach Carol Love, a number of Peterborough crews also had second-place finishes.

The performances were not enough to beat out the larger Ottawa Rowing Club (289 points) and the Kingston RC (232 points) as Peterborough finished third (225 points).
